Hell No…

Posting this week is not going to happen until the weekend between duty tomorrow and the unbelievable incidents at work today. In 4 1/2 years I have never had to deal with a racial problem or incident beyond a joke that went too far or offended the wrong person. Today I had not one but two!

First is an already problem child who is getting processed out of the Navy for drug use (he popped on a test last month) and had the gall to call his supervisor during a working party a “slant-eyed gook”. Until he is kicked out, he will have a lifetime supply of my foot in his ass so I am staying on board an extra night to ensure he makes my workspaces shine and sparkle with what little free time he was going to have.

Then a female sailor this afternoon decides that she can call one of the ship’s barbers a “&(($#()$ wetback” that needs to go back where she came from. Ironically, this “wetback” happens to be 100% American born and bred, and while this needs to be viewed in the context of that pathetic ageless competition over a man, its entirely unacceptable.

Yeesh… and when these types of incidents happen, the amount of paperwork required and different people to be informed is incredible.. so I’d be staying an extra night anyway just to file it all and cover my bases.

No more Navy stories for a long time, but I want to emphasize that after multiple deployments, stressful evolutions of all sorts, etc. etc, these remain the only 2 racial incidents I’ve had to deal with. Its an admirable quality of the military on a whole that I will miss, the near color-blind society you become a part of.
