Accepted
This former college dropout is about finished with his Associates (a pesky Stats course left) and ready to jump to UNC-Greensboro this summer after being accepted in spite of my previous egregious failure.
I am majoring in Geography (likely along the GIS track) and seeking a second major. Right now, Anthropology is at the top of the list, with a Public Health minor as well. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome. I sincerely thank those who have helped me throughout my time in school already with excellent guidance.
Success!
Psychology, Communications, Expository Writing and American Government constituted a good mix of classes to get me back into the rhythm of school work after being UA for 6 years.
I am pleased to announce at the completion of this semester no major slip-ups, just top marks. Just one small step forward but nevertheless an important one!
4 more classes begin in 2 weeks and the grand plan to do 4 years of school in 3 is still on track.
To my blogfriends, thank you again for the support and encouragement you have offered over the past few years that have helped bring me to this point.
*By the way, an excellent Navy blog I just discovered is The Destroyermen, currently out on deployment just like my bretheren on the Abe Lincoln and Kitty Hawk. Sailors do belong out to sea right?
Transition
I am currently enjoying 30 days of terminal leave from the Navy, allowing me to utilize my 30 days of earned leave in a highly constructive way. I registered for classes at Guilford Technical Community College and hope to pick up a few more during the drop/add period on January 7-10. Waiting in line for hours in the morning and evening (to register, purchase books and pay for tuition) was the culmination of 5 years of earnest soul-searching and learning. Here lies my redemption, can I seize it and make good upon its inherent promise? We shall see. I want to report good grades on this blog in May, so a lot of work will have to go into that. Some of my peers in line are fresh out of high school, some are single parents, some are middle-aged, and a few quite simply transcend an accurate or fair description. I was struck by the eagerness to learn, quite simply, the excitement of so many at another step in their personal process to do more with their life. Its an awesome thing to behold in person, let alone to be a participant in.Thank you to all who have read this blog or prior efforts, offered advice, criticism and even friendship. You all play a vital role in this effort. The inspiration of my wife to do my best has certainly helped. Discipline, patience and a tad of leadership accrued from experience in the Navy certainly play a key part. Most of all, God has offered me His grace, mercy and support throughout my many mistakes and poor choices. No one could ever be as extraordinarily lucky as I’ve been, it can only be incredibly good karma or His blessing. My beliefs make me think it is the latter, though treating others with dignity, respect and a tad of kindness certainly don’t hurt matters.
